Lentil Dahl Jar Mix – Easy, Gluten Free & Pantry-Friendly
If you love hearty, warming meals that are easy to throw together, this Lentil Dahl is for you. It’s a gluten free, budget-friendly pantry staple that makes weeknight dinners effortless. Just grab your jar, some stock or water, and you’ll have a fragrant, comforting dahl ready in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients - What’s in the jar
- ¾ cup green lentils
- ¾ cup red lentils
- 4 tablespoons dried onion flakes
- 1¼ teaspoons garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Cooking Instructions
- Heat a little oil in a deep pan.
- Add 1 large tomato, chopped into chunks, and cook for 2 minutes.
- Pour in the jar mix and stir for 1 minute, or until the spices are fragrant.
- Add 2 jars (about 3½ cups) of stock, broth, or water — your choice! For a creamier, milder flavour, stir in some coconut cream, but adjust the liquid slightly so the dahl doesn’t get too thick.
- Bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover with a lid. Cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add more liquid if needed. The dahl is ready when the lentils are soft and plump, and the flavours are fragrant.
- Serve with rice, naan bread, or roasted vegetables for a wholesome, satisfying meal.
Storage Tips
The dry jar mix will keep in a sealed jar in a cool, dry pantry for up to 6 months.
Cooked dahl keeps in the fridge for 3–4 days, or freeze portions for easy future meals.
